Aqua superPower and IGY Marinas bring high speed marine chargers to Sardinia
IGY Marinas, one of the world’s leading international marina networks, has partnered with Aqua superPower, – the world’s largest marine charging network – to bring the first high speed marine chargers to the island of Sardinia.
This latest collaboration between IGY and Aqua highlights a shared vision to transform the marine industry through innovation and sustainability.
Second IGY property with high speed marine chargers
This is the second Aqua high speed charging station in an IGY property, the first having been installed in the IGY Vieux Port de Cannes in 2019. An infrastructure of high speed chargers is important for the growth of electric boating, and the combination of IGY and Aqua makes a great partnership. IGY has 4,700 berths in 23 marinas across 13 countries in Europe, the Americas, Caribbean and the Middle East.
“We are excited to continue our collaboration with Aqua superPower to bring cutting-edge sustainable solutions to our marinas,” said Adrian Grijincu, General Manager at IGY Portisco Marina. “The installation of the Aqua 75 at IGY Portisco Marina reflects our ongoing dedication to providing forward-thinking solutions for sustainable yachting while maintaining the high standard of service our clients expect.”

The IGY Portisco Marina is located a stone’s throw from Porto Cervo, serves as the gateway to the iconic Costa Smeralda, and is only a 5 minute drive from the San Pantaleo, Sardinia’s idyllic ‘village of artists’. It boasts 589 berths capable of accommodating vessels up to 90 meters (295 ft). Many owners of those large yacht are looking at electric tender boats, but have questions about how and where to charge them.
The installation of the Aqua 75 marine fast charger provides them with that service and reinforces IGY’s commitment to sustainability. The Portisco facility already has solar thermal panels, 100% renewable electricity and dedicated waste recycling systems as part of its many greening practices.
The entire are is renowned for its stunning coastal scenery, turquoise waters, and serene beaches, so the addition of Aqua superPower’s charging infrastructure aligns with the destination’s appeal as a haven for modern, eco-conscious boaters. It also allows for multiple electric boating day trips to the protected Maddalena Islands, 20 nautical miles to the north.

Karen Gill, Chief Operations Officer at Aqua superPower, emphasized the significance of this partnership: “We’re proud to expand our relationship with IGY Marinas and deliver our marine fast-charging technology to IGY Portisco Marina. This installation represents a crucial step in advancing sustainable boating in the Mediterranean, enabling electric vessel owners to explore this beautiful region, while reducing their environmental impact.”
Infrastructure to support growing electric boat industry

Aqua, which sponsored the 2024 Gustave Trouvé International Electric Boat Awards, now has high speed charging available in 12 locations along the Mediterranean coast, including Sant Carles, Barcelona and Port de Portbou in Spain; Cogolin, St. Tropez and Cannes in France; Monaco; and Italy’s Ventimiglia, Stabia, Brindisi and Venice.
The smart networked superchargers allow users to recharge in just 20 to 90 minutes, supporting the transition to cleaner, more sustainable marine travel. Currently the transition is in a bit of a chicken and egg situation between the charging stations and boat builders.
Plugboats Directory of 700+ electric boat and boating suppliers
The wide assortment of electric boats attending the 2024 Monaco Energy Boat Challenge are just one demonstration of the expanding range of electric boats now available, while the Plugboats Electric Boats Supplier Directory now includes more than 700 boat builders, motor manufacturers and others involved in the electrification of marine propulsion.
Aqua offers a turnkey solution in which it funds, future-proofs, and manages all installations, including operation and maintenance. This gives boat buyers a sense of comfort about ‘range anxiety’ and provides marina owners, waterfront destinations, and local governments with a unique opportunity to embrace and support electric boating.
