Plugboats Guide to Electric Boat Exhibitors: Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) 2024

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is recognized as the largest in-water boat show in the world. The five-day show has more than 1,000 exhibitors and 1,300 boats on display – everything from kayaks to superyachts – and attracts over 100,000 attendees. This is all spread out over 90 acres and 3 million square feet of exhibit space connected by a network of water and ground transportation services.

As we wrote in 2022, it is apparent that FLIBS is not an electric boat hot spot when you look up to see an airplane towing an advertising banner saying ‘TEXT FOR A CHANCE TO WIN FREE FUEL’.

So it is heartening to see that electric and hybrid boats and propulsion are starting to gain some presence at the show, side by side with the incredible number of ocean going speedboats that can have as many as six  250hp outboards hanging off their transoms.

At the bottom of this page is a quick visual guide to the electric boat exhibitors. Click on any of the tiles to find out contact and more information about the companies, and if you are at the show you can see where they are located by visiting the directory on the FLIBS website.

Click »» here to go the bottom of this page for a complete directory
of all electric boating companies showing at FLIBS 2024

That is not to say that all of the exhibitors in the directory are showing electric boats at the show, but if oyu are interested in electric options, they do have electric and hybrid boats and technologies that you can inquire about.

Some electric boat highlights at FLIBS 2024

Axopar
Axopar EX/E electric boat speeding along waterAxopar, one of the world’s fastest growing boat manufacturers, announced a few weeks ago the introduction of a new line – AX/E – dedicated exclusively to all-electric boats. (Read the full story »» here.) The company first debuted an electric powered model at the Cannes Yachting Festical in 2022, and their Axopar 25 with high powered electric outboards by Evoy was the winner of last year’s Gustave Trouvé Electric Boat Awards in the Up To 8m / 26ft category.

Since then, Axopar designers have made changes to the 25, some of which reflect the different characteristics that add to an electric boat experience. The results can be seen at FLIBs, where the all new AX/E 25 and its luxurious finish will be available on land for a look-over by interested – or just curious – boat buyers.

Evoy
Part and parcel with the AX/E launch is the introduction of the Evoy outboard motors that power the boats. You can see their Storm Outboard 300+ hp on the AX/E 25. It is the larger of the two outboards Evoy produces, boasting continuous power of 225 kW (≈ 305 hp) and the ability to double that for short periods with a peak power of 450 kW (≈ 610 hp). That should spark the interest of the high power afficionados that come to the Lauderdale show!

In July, at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge,  Evoy announced a new business relationship and partnership with fellow electric drive manufacturer, Vita Power. (Read the whole story »» here). The companies have complementary businesses, with Evoy focussing on the recreational boat market and Vita on the commercial.

Vita has made significant strides in the commercial sector, particularly in California, where commercial workboats including the Vita Seal, are already operational, with many more scheduled for delivery in 2025.  In an announcement, Evoy Vita said “In addition to its partnership with Axopar, the Evoy Storm 300+ hp will also be made available to other boat builders in 2025, enabling a wider adoption of high-performance electric solutions across the marine industry“.

Candela
The Candela C-8 electric hydrofoiling speedboat has been one of the best selling boats of any propulsion in Europe for the past two years, and is beginning to attract a lot of attention in the US, where test drives are available in Miami and San Francisco. Key to its appeal is the hydrofoiling technology, which reduces the amount of energy used to propel a boat by as much as 85%. With no water resistance when the C-8 is on the foils, it can travel for up to 57 NM at a cruising speed of 22 knots.

Greenline
Greenline Yachts is a true electric boat pioneer that first started building hybrid yachts in 2008 and now have 8 models – from 39 to 58 feet – all of which are available with full electric drive.

At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show they launched a new superyacht line, GX Superyachts, that is making its North American debut at Lauderdale. The range will encompass aluminum builds from 24 to 56 metres (80 to 185 feet), with the first 42-metre (180 ft) model sold and under construction with delivery scheduled for summer 2026.

The company say they hope to “set a new benchmark in environmental performance” with their proven serial hybrid drive, battery bank and integrated solar arrays (also used on the Greenline line.) A serial hybrid drive is where the electric and diesel motors both turn the same propeller shaft, either in full electric mode, diesel mode or hybrid mode.

In full electric mode each of the GX models will be able to reach six knots and a range of up to 100 nautical miles. The yachts have “silent” anchorage for 48 hours or more, where the battery bank powers the hotel load – including air conditioning – for “no noise, vibration or smell” from combustion.

In diesel mode, the yachts will have a maximum speed of 12 knots. Overall the  the shipyard is promising “less than 40 per cent of the carbon emissions” of a conventional yacht.

Highfield
At the smaller end of the electric boat scale, Highfield will be showing their Highfield 660 with electric propulsion by Flux Marine.

The companies say that Highfield’s reputation for durability and Flux’s focus on cutting-edge propulsion technology combine for “a boat package that inspires confidence on the water.” Sized for family outings or water sports, it offers safe, reliable transport and a thrilling ride. Whether cruising or cutting through waves, the hull excels in performance, making each adventure effortless. With a top speed of 34 mph, Highfield Flux Marine 660 has a cruising range of 30 miles.

Sialia Yachts
Sialia Yachts turned a lot of heads at the Monaco Energy Challenge this past summer, with its Sialia 57 Weekender being the largest electric boat among the 15 commercially available models at the competition.

The Weekender features a state-of-the-art electric propulsion system by Ampros that delivers a powerful and whisper-quiet cruising experience. As they say on the Ampros website, “an electric boat is not just a motor and a battery, it is a whole system that integrates software, hardware, digital interfaces, charging, range extension and more.”

In the US, Sialia sales are being handled by YachtSalesInternational, who are proud to announce their partnership with “…an industry leader in sustainable luxury yachts. Highlighting groundbreaking innovations in electric propulsion, refined experiences and eco-friendly design, Sialia Yachts will showcase the remarkable Sialia 57 Weekender, Deep Silence, a stunning example of the future of yachting, along with models of the fleet available on G Dock.”

Silent-Yachts
Silent-Yachts is coming to Fort Lauderdale with the highly anticipated U.S. premiere of their SY 62 3-Deck Open, a luxury solar-electric catamaran with all onboard systems using advanced solar energy technology.  Awarded “Most Efficient Yacht” at the 2024 World Yachts Trophies in Cannes, the SY 62 combines cutting-edge technology and bespoke luxury, featuring the largest flybridge in its class.

The Silent 62 3-Deck Open Builds on the success of the company’s bestselling Silent 60, replacing the traditional flybridge with an impressive third open deck – 60 square metes offering a 360° view of the surroundings. The lower deck of the Silent 62 3-Deck Open can accommodate 4 to 5 guest cabins, along with five bathrooms, plus 1 to 2 crew cabins.

Equipped with a solar array of 16.8 kWp, twin 180 kW continuous power E-motors and a 286 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, plus a range extender of 145 kW peak, the Silent 62 3-Deck Open has a cruising speed of 6-7 knots and a transoceanic range.

X Shore
Swedish electric boat manufacturer is at Fort Lauderdale this year with both of its leisure boat models, the Eelex 8000 and X Shore 1.

The 8 metre (26 ft) Eelex 8000 has a 170 kW motor and a 126 kWh battery capacity and can reach a speed of 30+ knots with a cruising speed of 20 knots. The smaller X Shore 1 (6.5 m  24 ft)  has a 125kW motor and a range of up to 50 nautical miles. Both are available with different configurations, including open and hard top.

Our corporate policy is to take great pains over building boats that enhance the relationship between boats, people and the environment. We have a vision; the increased freedom of people to move at will across the sea shall not be achieved at the expense of the environment.

We started our electric ambition already in 2009 and have had an electric powertrain as an option for three of our boat models since 2015.

Our E-power Concept, also known as “Environmental Power”, represents Nimbus environmental thinking for the future, in which we include the entire boat-building process from production engineering to climate-smart materials.

Williams Jet Tenders | EVOA • USA
The 70e maintains identical top speed and nearly the same weight as its ICE counterpart. Alongside its performance, the EvoJet 70e is true to the fit and finish of all quality Williams Jet Tender products. This boat was first debuted in Cannes Yacht and Boat Show, then again in Monaco’s on water yacht and boat show. The boat features a single axial flux motor setup to match the 250 hp Yanmar that previously propelled this boat. In place of the 52 gallon gas, a 58.5kWh battery powers this boat for an estimated time on throttle of 58 minutes.

In 2019, the EvoJet pushed the boundaries of what’s expected from a superyacht tender, but this wasn’t the end… we were just getting started.

We embarked on a journey of discovery, and a mission to reduce emissions. A demonstration of innovation. A bolt from the blue.

Our most advanced and luxurious tender, the EvoJet, has been electrified. Initially a technology demonstrator designed to push the boundaries of what’s possible, without compromising on the level of performance you’d expect from a Williams tender.
