USA welcomes first 100% electric Greenline 40 with Ingenity mCrate propulsion
Florida is moving big time into the electric yacht world as boutique brokerage YachtSalesInternational of Fort Lauderdale welcomes a 100% electric Greenline 40 with an mCrate drive train by Ingenity of Orlando.
The yacht was ordered by a YSI customer in Annapolis, who will soon be enjoying the comfort and luxury of silent, fume and emission-free cruising on the Chesapeake Bay and beyond.
First project for Greenline and Ingenity
Greenline is one of the pioneers of electric and hybrid boating, launching their first hybrid model, the Greenline 33, in 2008. Their signature hull design is called a ‘superdisplacement’ hull and incorporates the best low-drag properties of a sleek sailing boat with elements of a wider displacement hull for smooth and stable cruising.
That fits nicely with electric propulsion and the company promotes it strongly as the only yacht manufacturer in the world whose complete range of seven models – from 39 to 58 feet – is available with either hybrid or all-electric propulsion.

This is the first time Greenline has teamed up with Ingenity, who have worked with partners like Nautique and Hacker-Craft to electrify their powerful wakeboard boats and runabout classics. Using that breadth of knowledge and experience they developed their mCrate system in early 2024 as an offering for other boatyards.
“This yacht is the result of true collaboration between a customer with vision, a boatbuilder committed to sustainability, and a propulsion partner at the forefront of marine innovation,” said Udo Willersinn, Co-Founder of YachtSalesInternational.com. “With the Greenline 40 Electric, we’re not just delivering a boat—we’re delivering the future of yachting.”
‘Great match for electric Greenline 40’
Capt. Todd Sims, Director of Ingenity Electric, is one of the most knowledgable experts on electric propulsion in the USA, having worked for decades on recreational, commercial, power and sailing boats and yachts of all sizes and usage.
“The Twin Drive mCrate System is such a great match for the Greenline 40,” he says. “The engine room layout allows abundant space for the installation, and as we already know, the hull is a proven efficient design. Our system’s duty cycle, speed, and range capabilities will suit pretty well every typical use case for this type of vessel.
The mCrate was designed to be both a standardized ‘drop-in’ that allows boat builders to easily electrify models, as well as a system versatile enough to be customized for specific installations.
Ingenity worked closely with the Greenline architects and designers to deliver on the yacht owner’s desires. They decided on twin electric motors delivering 135kW (185 hp) of continuous power, fed by three 63kWh (total 189 kWh) 400V lithium NMC battery packs. On the roof of the main deck are 6 solar panels of 280kW peak each – 1.6kWp altogether.
Multiple charging options
The owner will enjoy a variety of charging options, including a 10kW Level 2 charging onboard with a DC fast charge capability that can take the battery from 20 – 80% State of Charge in less than an hour. The battery features an advanced thermal management system with a heat pump for optimal performance and the Ingenity Connect app enables remote telematics and over-the-air updates.
On the comfort front, one of the signatures of the Greenline design is the ample space available in the bow, main deck and below, due in large part to the super displacement hull design.
Another Greenline design feature is their main deck where the aft galley and cockpit combine to form a large social area where food, drinks and conversation are easily shared. All of this is surrounded by massive windows that allow natural light to flow throughout the entire main deck.
One of the things that makes the yacht most enjoyable though, is the ability to enjoy time on the water and enjoy the passing scene without the rumbling of engines and smell of fumes. While this is the first Greenline 40 with all-electric Ingenity mCrate to arrive in the USA, the crew at YachtSalesInternational is confident it won’t be the last.
