Vancouver Boat Show highlights electric boat programming
The Vancouver Boat Show on the West Coast of Canada is hosting a number of presentations at this year’s event, including a Round Table and Q&A Series hosted by Bruno Hoffman of the online video channel The Green Boater TV.
You can find out more about all of the seminars and presentations on the Vancouver Boat Show website. Here’s a quick rundown:
Lithium Ion Batteries & Modern Power Management
Tom Cox-Rogers, owner of TCR Coastal Power and a Red Seal Certified Marine Electrician with over 17 years of experience servicing both private and commercial vessels, presents a comprehensive but down-to-earth analysis of Lithium-Ion battery technology and power management systems. The goal is to demystify modern Lithium-Ion technology and power management systems. Tom looks at industry trends, manufacturer options, and suitability for marine, RV, and off-grid applications. Discussion points include installation best practices and secondary charging integration.
Eco-Friendly Power: Arc Sport 100% all-electric wake boat
Erik Anderson of EV Marine & Kanuk Board Company and professional professional surfer Lily Anderson give an overview of the Arc Sport and the features/benefits of electric wake boats. Erik is a lifelong fan of skateboarding and snowboarding who took up wakesurfing in 2007, now logging more than 200 hours each year wakesurfing at their home and in 16 countries around the world. His newest venture, EVMarine, is the exclusive Western Canada dealer for California’s Arc Boats.
Lily Anderson is a professional wakesurfer with many national and international titles: 3x World Champion, 5x Japan Open Champion, 2x European Champion (England and Spain) and winner of national Championships in Dubai, Hong Kong and her native Canada. She has recently designed her own pro model surfboard for Kanuk Board Company.
Electrification for Sail and Power Boats: What you need to know.
Brent Perry of OSEA Boats has spent more than forty years pushing the marine industry toward cleaner, quieter, and more efficient ways of moving on the water. He began his career racing sailboats before moving into superyacht construction and in 2006, reshaped the future of commercial marine by introducing lithium battery technology to the sector—pioneering the global shift toward industrial marine electrification.
As the founder of Corvus and later SHIFT, Brent helped bring energy storage technology to ferries, workboats, and large commercial ships around the world. His experience spans every part of the process—from systems engineering to shipyard integration—and includes hands-on involvement in landmark hybrid projects such as Norway’s Ampere and the ForSea ferries Aurora and Tycho Brahe. At OSEA Brent is turning that same expertise toward the recreational sector.
In this session he gives practical and essential leaning about what electrification actually means for sailboats and powerboats, performance considerations, the difference between buying an electric boat and converting one – and how to keep your vessel and loved ones safe.
Are Electric Outboards For Me?
Joe Grez, a physicist, career product innovator, and inventor of the EP Carry electric outboard explores the reality of electric outboards, replacing misleading “thrust” ratings with a practical framework based on how people actually use their boats. Whether it be day sailing, dinghy transport, or cruising. He provides the essential tools to determine the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of electric power for your specific boating lifestyle.
Electric Sunday Roll Call
Bruno Hoffman, founder of The Green Boater TV and its Marine EV Leadership Series, is a trusted voice in the transition to electric propulsion with his media platform and educational resource dedicated to advancing sustainable practices within the boating community. He hosts and oversees the Electric Sunday Roll Call covering a variety of e-boat topics:
Are we there yet? Electrical marine propulsion systems overview.
Attila Molnar is the founder of Petawatts, which specializes in converting classic boats, RVs, and vintage vehicles into high-performance electric machines. His work bridges the gap between traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology, most notably demonstrated by his full electric restoration of a 1952 classic mahogany boat nominated for the Gussies Awards in 2025. He takes the audience behind the scenes with an overview of the most advanced and novel electric propulsion systems from around the world, including smaller and larger outboard and inboard configurations, innovative pod drives, and the revolutionary efficiency of foil-assisted and fully hydrofoiling systems

Crushing Range Anxiety
Justin Dalinger is a yacht captain, former US Coast Guard Coxswain, and founder of the AquaLectric YouTube channel dedicated to sharing the current state of technology in the electric boating world. (See a video done by Justin and Jeff Butler of Plugboats below).
Emil Finne is the founder of Finland’s Elvene Boats, which merges traditional naval craftsmanship with cutting-edge sustainable technology, including solar-electric propulsion. Together they discuss the realities and not-so-realities of ‘Range Anxiety’ in an in-depth interview that includes onboard footage of Emil’s pioneering 5-day, 200-nautical-mile expedition through the Finnish archipelago.
Detroit to Cummins to Hybrid-Electric on a 1969 Yacht
Janis & Blaine Carmena are a husband-and-wife team who met while working professionally aboard yachts and have logged over 200,000 nautical miles together, including a circumnavigation of the globe. This presentation follows the real-world evolution of their taking a 1969 aluminum yacht and converting it from classic diesel propulsion toward a modern hybrid-electric system. This is their first personally owned yacht, currently being modernized for long-range cruising with plans to arrive in Japan, via Alaska, in 2026.
The talk traces the yacht’s second major propulsion overhaul, beginning with her original Detroit Diesel engines, followed by a modern diesel repower completed in recent years, and now the decision to move in a new direction with hybrid-electric power. The presentation focuses on practical decision-making rather than theory or marketing claims, outlining why each choice made sense at the time, what was learned through living with each system, and what ultimately led to rethinking propulsion once again. It examines the realities of operating older machinery, the strengths and limitations of modern diesel engines, and why hybrid-electric has become a serious option for a yacht of this size and age.
